How to Qualify |
|
| Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County builds homes in partnership with hard-working, low-income families and individuals in Anderson County. Future homeowners must submit an application, and they are selected by an unbiased committee of volunteers, based on need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner with Habitat. After construction is completed, houses are sold at cost to partnering homeowners, with no-interest mortgages. Monthly mortgage payments that are set at an affordable amount are required. |
|
| Need for adequate housing |
- Current housing must be substandard (examples: little or no heat, leaky roof, structural problems, pests/rodents, overcrowding, sewer problems, bad wiring, in public housing, etc.).
- Must be an Anderson County resident.
|
|
| Income and Credit Qualifications |
- Must be able to make monthly mortgage payments that include taxes and insurance (between $350-$450 per month, based on income).
- A steady income is required.
- Have not filed for bankruptcy in the past year and/or not paying on bankruptcy.
- Pay bills on time and do not have many unpaid bills.
- Meet income guidelines.
|
|
| Willing to partner with Habitat |
- Contribute 400 hours of “sweat equity” toward the building of your house and other Habitat activities.
- Make a $1,200 down payment before construction begins.
- Participate in Habitat’s family support programs.
- Attend Habitat’s homeownership classes.
- Take responsibility for the mortgage, taxes, and insurance.
